Year of the Yang Metal Rat

January 25th kicks off the Chinese New Year! 2020 brings new beginnings since the Rat is the first animal of the Chinese Zodiac, starting a whole new 12 year cycle.

Before you say “Ew, I don’t like rats”...

He’s not just that icky creature you find lurking in your garage, he’s actually a very intelligent, likable fellow. Like any of us, he’s got a light side and a dark side.

If you were born in the Year of the Rat:

1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008

When it’s same animal as your birth year, expect a wild ride! You’ll get all the highs and lows that year, so prepare yourself and brace for big changes.

What does the Rat bring for us in 2020?

What does “Yang Metal Rat” mean? Let’s start with Yang.

The ancient Chinese Yin Yang symbol is concept of dualism. Very simply put, the symbol shows how opposites are complementary and you need one to balance the other.

Metal Element

Feng Shui utilizes the Chinese 5 Element Theory. All 5 elements are found in nature and together can create perfect balance in an environment.

Metal is strong, rigid, determined, willful and powerful. It provides structure and routine. Aids with communication and concentration.

Now that we’ve learned about the Yang, the Metal and the Rat, here’s how you can leverage all of that for a great 2020:

This is a powerful year for getting projects started! All that yang metal energy is forceful. Combine that with the Rat’s creative superpowers, and you’ve got a recipe for taking massive action this year. Stop procrastinating! Also a great time to use the metal energy to create new routines or structure for yourself.

Use the yang component to go all in with everything you do. Go a little harder at the gym, go the extra mile for your clients, have a little more fun...but don’t leave out rest and self care to balance it all out. You must have the yin with the yang!

Bite off your projects in manageable bits. The Rat is really good at starting projects, but no so good about finishing them.

The Rat is a sneaky creature. Keep communication open with your partners, spouses, coworkers, etc. Don’t fall in the Rat’s pattern of stashing away secrets or knowledge.

Harness his creative energy to start a new hobby or solve an issue that has been lingering. Think about things from different perspectives. Perfect time to explore a new creative endeavor.

The Rat is really good at seeking new opportunities. If you are looking for a job, new partner or an investment property, 2020 is the year to do it!
